How to make a bag out of a T-shirt
Ingredients:
1 - t shirt
1 - fabric marking chalk
1 - longish straight edge
30 - minutes
Procedure:
1. Flip shirt inside out.
2. Lay shirt out flat on a table.
3. Using a large straight edge, draw a straight line with the chalk just above the bottom hem. (Picture #1).
4. Cut off the bottom hem.
5. Draw a line with the chalk 6.5 inches above the cut made in step 4. (Picture #2)
6. Measure in 3" from both bottom edges, and draw a vertical line from the bottom to the line drawn in step 5.
7. Leave 1/2" seam allowance and cut out the corners (the shaded part of picture #2). The rectangular regions below the line will become the doubled up bottom.
8. Lay the straight edge on the shirt from the point where the line drawn in step 5 meets the side fo the shirt to a point on the shoulder of the shirt. The line should come about 1/2 inch to the closest part of the sleve. Draw a line from a point 6" below the shoulder downwards. Repeat for the other side.
9. Sew along the lines drawn in step 8.
10. Cut off the sleeves, staying about 1/2" away from the line drawn in step 8.
11. Cut off the neck.
12. Fold the front bottom piece back, so the lines drawn in step 6 line up with the line drawn in step 5. Sew along these lines.
13. Sew the long edge of the front bottom flap to the top of the back bottom flap. Sew about 1/2" from the edge.
14. Fold the back piece forward. Sew the sides, as in step 12.
15. (Optional) This squares up the bottom a bit: Sew along the last long edge.
16. Turn shirt right side out.
17. Go to store and fill with stuff.
